2025 U.S. Government Shutdown
On October 1st, the Republican Party and the Democratic Party could not agree on a Republican proposed budget plan that would raise defence spending and lower healthcare and education. Because they could not agree on that, they had to make an appropriation act. An appropriation act allows the U.S Government to spend money (in this case defence). But they did not. That brought the U.S. government into a shutdown. A government shutdown means that the federal government will not operate, federal workers will not get paid, small farmers who survive on the agriculture benefits will not be given funds. Food Stamps and other food assistance programs are under pressure. The government shutdown is still going on. Today is day # 21 of the shutdown.
