Death, Eros, and the unborn, and the cosmic sense of their interchange. Sometimes, a non-existent “life” emerges irreversibly from the side of “death.” You have truly made my own the sense of existence that can only be expressed in tanka. They were brought into this world through your writing style, which is as if you were caressing the darkness of twilight with your hands, scooping them up, and embracing them deep in your bosom.

—— 福島泰樹 日本の僧侶・歌人・朗読家・ナレーター。 法華宗本門流法昌寺住職。 早稲田大学短歌会、『心の花』 『反措定』 同人を経て、現在「月光の会」主宰。 Yasuki Fukushima Japanese monk, poet, reciter, and narrator. Head priest of Hosho-ji Temple, a branch of the Nichiren Shoshu Honmon School of Buddhism. A member of the Waseda University Tanka Society, Kokoro no Hana (Flower of the Heart) and Hansokujo (Hanjyojo), and currently the leader of the Gekko no Kai (Moonlight Society).

This event is co-sponsored by Ciao Niu and Tanka-kai Center for Japanese Language, Waseda University. Waseda Tanka-kai has been an active circle since the Taisho era. Nominal support by the Columbia University Alumni Association of Japan.

Speaker: Ciao Niu

(born 1998) is a Singaporean venture capitalist based in Japan. He is the founder and executive managing director of Spring Dale Invest [JP], an investment firm in Tokyo.
