On Sunday, an arrest warrant was placed for South Korean president Yoon by a court in Seoul, South Korea.
Yoon failed to appear at three summons regarding his imposing of martial law that resulted in his impeachment. These failures to appear were which his lawyer attributed to “legitimate concerns”
He was accused of attempting to spark a “rebellion”
The leader of a rebellion could face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted per the country’s laws.
Yoon’s lawyer is named Yun Gap-geun.
Yoon’s presidential duties were revoked on December 14.
Yoon was not able to legally leave the country.
Yoon’s team of legal representives contended that authorities had no authority to arrest the president, and called the move “illegal”. They contended that the martial law declaration was “within the president’s constitutional authority”
The Consitutional Court was still to decide whether Yoon would be removed from office or reinstated.
Choi Jin, director of the Seoul-based Institute of Presidential Leadership said there is no way to detain Yoon.
They also voted to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo.
