On Sunday, NBC News reported that a lawsuit claimed that American rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs had been accused of a 2000 rape of a 13-year-old.
The alleged victim has been identified only as “Jane Doe”, and claimed the sexual assault occurred in 2000 at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
She claimed she was given a drink that made her feel “woozy”.[1]
Jay-Z’s birth name is Shawn Carter.[2]
Combs had already been mentioned in a complaint that was filed in October through the Southern District of New York,[3] but the complaint was amended on Sunday to include Jay-Z as well. The complaint also mentions an unidentified female celebrity who witnessed the assault and did nothing while the two rapper took turns having their way with her.[4][5]
Jay-Z released a protracted statement denying the allegations, calling the situation “blackmail”. He also said that the allegations will expose his accuser as a “fraud”,[6] and decried the claims as “idiotic”[7] and “heinous”.[8]
He later said the lawsuit was part of an “extrortion ploy”[Source][Source]
Although Combs also denied the allegations, his legal team declined to comment in light of the development.[9]
