Yesterday, daylight-saving time ended in Orlando, marking the end of a 238-day period which included a terrible mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub which left 50 people dead. This was the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history since records began in 1949. The shooting happened on Sunday, June 12, the 164th day of 2016 and the 92nd day of the 238-day DST interval. But yesterday, on Sunday, November 6, 2016, daylight-saving time ended, so local clocks fell back one hour, or 60 minutes, from 1:59:59 a.m. back to 1:00:00 a.m. For the last eight months, Orlando has been on daylight-saving time, locally known as Eastern Daylight Time. Now, Orlando is on standard time, locally known as Eastern Standard Time. Even after five months, the memory of June 12 remains fresh for some people, especially those who were physically at the nightclub that night. However, officials have stated time and time again that Sunday, June 12th will not define the amazing city of Orlando.
For now, many Orlando residents are very happy because Thanksgiving is only 17 days away! This year, Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 24, 2016. It’s a day to count your many blessings, as well as a day to get together with family and friends and eat turkey and other delicious food!
