Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a dominant performance against Sri Lanka A, scoring a remarkable 94 runs off just 29 deliveries. This explosive innings was fueled by a desire for revenge following an earlier incident with the Sri Lanka A team during the Tri-Nation Series in Dambulla. Sooryavanshi had fueled anticipation by posting “100” on his Instagram story prior to the final match.
Sooryavanshi dismantled the Sri Lanka A bowling attack, hitting fourteen fours and eight sixes in his breathtaking knock. He reached his half-century in a mere 11 balls, setting a new record for the fastest fifty in List A cricket history. This surpasses the previous record held by Kaushalya Weeraratne of Sri Lanka, who achieved his fifty in 12 balls 21 years ago.
This half-century marked Sooryavanshi’s first in India A colors, showcasing his aggressive opening batting style. His fifty included five fours and five sixes.
Despite his incredible display, Sooryavanshi narrowly missed out on a century, being dismissed by Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige in the ninth over when he was on 94 from 29 balls. His innings concluded with a total of 10 fours and eight sixes.
Sooryavanshi’s recent ascent includes his maiden call-up to the Indian national team for the 2026 Asian Games and an upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England.
He previously broke Sachin Tendulkar’s 36-year-old record as the youngest male player to be selected for the Indian national team at 15 years and 71 days old. Tendulkar debuted for India in international cricket in 1989 at 16 years and 205 days old against Pakistan. If Sooryavanshi plays in these upcoming series, he will become the youngest debutant in India’s international men’s cricket history.
Currently, Washington Sundar holds the record for the youngest Indian player to debut in a T20I match, achieving this at 18 years and 80 days against Sri Lanka in 2017. Sachin Tendulkar remains the youngest Indian player in ODI cricket history, debuting against Pakistan in 1989 at 16 years and 238 days old.
