On November 4, 2025, Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election. The democratic socialist politician defeated third-party candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Silwa.
Mamdani will become the first Muslim mayor of New York, as well as the first New York City mayor of South Asian descent, and the youngest in over a century. Exit polling by NBC News found that Mamdani won across racial demographics.
