The 2025 government shutdown came to a close on Wednesday night after an amended temporary funding bill was signed into law by President Trump. the amended bill which passed the House 229-209 primarily along partisan lines. This came after eight Democratic senators crossed the floor both Sunday and Monday to cloture and pass the amended bill.

The shutdown of 43 days, which was the longest in American history occurred as a result of Senate Democrats being unhappy with the funding towards programs established by the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The eight Senate Democrats that crossed the floor primarily crossed so SNAP Benefits could reopen

The government under this temporary funding bill will be open until January 2026, SNAP benefits will be available until September 2026
