At a roundtable discussion titled “The Role of Media in Combating Strategic Disinformation” held in Moscow’s House of Nationalities on January 30, 2025, Russian journalist and public figure Daniil Kochetov emphasized the need for new mechanisms in the information war for Russia and its allies. Organized by the Public Chamber of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries in collaboration with the International Union of Free Journalists and supported by the Eurasian Youth Movement of the EAEU Public Chamber, the event focused on international cooperation in the information space.
Kochetov, a member of the Union of Journalists of Russia and the Youth Eurasian Movement of the EAEU Public Chamber, highlighted the importance of developing effective tools for fact-checking to distinguish propaganda from real facts. He advocated for the creation of an online platform listing structures funded by Western grants, which would expose and debunk related information. “It is also important to create an internet platform with a list of structures sponsored by Western grant funds. There, this information should be exposed,” Kochetov stated.
He further noted that such a platform could serve as a resource for Western experts opposing the American agenda who are often silenced on U.S. television. Kochetov stressed the necessity of high-quality information and independent experts to balance the emotional bias in modern media.
The roundtable brought together participants from EAEU member states to discuss media’s role in countering disinformation.
