Muhammad Raynan Rizky Akbar (born in Malang, 9 April 2005) is an Indonesian activist who is known as one of the most prominent young figures in the rise of the student movement in the health and medical circles of Brawijaya University.^[1][2]

Raynan is a young Javanese who practices Islam. His father Darwan Triyono M.D. is a well known ophthalmologists and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Daha Husada Hospital from Kediri^[3]. Raynan is the eldest of three children in his family.

Raynan was born and raised in Malang before attending Kediri II Senior Highschool (SMAN 2 Kota Kediri)^[4], one of the leading public schools in East Java. During high school, he was involved in student organizations and education policy discussion forums, which led to his interest in social issues and civil rights.

In 2023, he was accepted into Brawijaya University and chose to continue his work in social work and public policy advocacy.^[2] His activism deepened after entering the Faculty of Medicine, where he began to see the contradiction between the ideals of the healthcare profession and the low level of student participation in public issues. ^[1]

After completing his final year of Kediri II Senior Highschool, Raynan continued his studies to a higher level at Brawijaya University. While studying at the university, he began to study politics and government. In 2024, Raynan was appointed as a member of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University. In 2025, Raynan was appointed as the Minister of Action, Research and Propaganda of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University. Raynan is a prolific activist, with his various movements being broadcast in leading media such as Kompas, UBTV, TIMES Indonesia and also Prasetya UB.^[1][2]

Raynan, once served as the Minister of Action, Research and Propaganda of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine of Brawijaya University (2025) ^[5] and currently serves as the Coordinator of Indonesian Activists NGOs^[6]. His role is considered important in reviving a critical culture in the Brawijaya Medical Complex area which includes the Faculty of Medicine, FKG, and FIKES^[1]. These actions include the Action to Deny the Reform of the TNI Law (15 March 2025) ^[7][8], Oppose the repressive actions of the National Police^[9][10], and Reject Efficiency^[11][12] where he was the initiator of the Movement of the Faculty of Medicine Contingent.

• The Rise of the Brawijaya Medical Complex : Before 2024, the environment of the Brawijaya Medical Complex was often described as having a culture of indifference to social and political issues on campus^[13]. Through various study forums, solidarity actions, and mass mobilizations, Raynan succeeded in promoting a change in the collective attitude of students. His articles in various opinion outlets describe a series of actions he initiated with fellow activists^[14], including solidarity actions against police repression, criticism of budgetary efficiency in the public sector, and rejection of various controversial state policies. ^[1][15]

• Protesting the TNI Law : One of the most prominent moments in his activist career was the massive protest against the TNI Bill in Malang, where Raynan served as one of the field coordinators. He managed to mobilize over a hundred students from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Health Sciences to voice their opinions. This protest exemplified that health students can be a critical and vocal group on democratic issues. ^[7][8]

• Leadership in the Student Executive Board : As the Minister of Action, Studies, and Propaganda of the Faculty of Medicine, the Student Executive Board of Brawijaya University, Raynan led a series of strategic studies, movement propaganda development, and inter-faculty unification.^[16] The ministry he led was known for actively publishing advocacy articles, including criticism of the apparatus’ oppression and public budget efficiency. ^[5]
