Australian Aboriginal artist Garry Purchase was chosen to have his artwork Dancing in the Moonlight featured on a giant projection on the Sydney Opera House at dawn on Australia‘s national day, January 26, 2026.

Purchase said to Coast Community News, “I was approached by the Australia Day Council and invited to have my artwork featured,” adding further, “It was a massive thing, but on the other side as an Aboriginal man there was a hint of trepidation.”

Australia celebrates its national holiday on January 26, the anniversary of the founding of the British colony in 1788.
