On 5 September 2025, Ko Wen-je was granted temporary release by the Taipei District Court, contingent upon posting bail of NT$70 million. The judge clarified that this amount is not necessarily final and may be subject to adjustment if the case is appealed in the future.
Mr. Ko is implicated in the Core Pacific City (京華城) land redevelopment controversy. During his Taipei mayor-ship in 2021, he approved a significant increase in the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) for the site which enabled the development for the Core Pacific Plaza (京華廣場), currently still under construction. This decision favored Core Pacific Group the developer.
The controversy gained widespread attention in Taiwan in late 2023, coinciding with Mr. Ko’s campaign for the presidency of the Republic of China. Mr. Ko denies all allegations and claims the case is politically motivated.
