Andriy Parubiy, who served as the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, from 14 April 2016 to 29 August 2019, was assasinated in Lviv.
Parubiy was shot. He died at the scene from injuries.
First, National Police made statement that a political figure was murdered after a shooting in the western Ukrainian city. Then lawmaker Iryna Herashchenko confirmed that it was Parubiy who was killed.
“Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslav Kravchenko have just informed me about the first known circumstances of the terrible murder in Lviv. Andriy Parubiy has died,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The shooter managed to escape, the manhunt continues across Lviv Oblast.
Parubiy was active participant of Euromaidan. He also served as Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine from February till August 2014.
He was 54.
