On Friday, two people died and dozens more were injured when over 60 cars piled up on Kan-etsu Expressway in Japan, approximately 100 miles north of Tokyo. At least five people were hospitalized in critical condition.
The initial crash occurred when two trucks collided.
Inclement weather interfered with Japanese end-of-year holiday travel, with weather advisories having been issued by authorities.
Due to slick road conditions, the cars behind them were unable to brake in time and crashed into the cars that were already crashed. Fire broke out and spread to the other cars.
It took seven hours for them to put the fire out. They pulled the charred dead body of a 77-year-old woman out of the the wreckage.
Sections of the road remained closed pending the investigation.
