Wildfires are currently spreading within the Texas panhandle on February 17, 2026, amid high winds. The Lavender fire affected parts of Oldham and Potter counties, which caused a mandatory evacuation order for the Valley de Oro area.

The 8 Ball fire was located four miles east of Goodnight, Texas, in which the Donley County Sheriff’s Office has issued a mandatory evacuation order for Howardwick.

On that same day, Xcel Energy shut off power to around 15,000 customers in multiple counties to decrease the risk of wildfires.
