Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed recently brought together women leaders in Manhasset, Long Island, for their fifth annual meeting. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), women’s rights, gender equality, and the principles of the UN Charter.
Fundamental Rights and Sustainable Development
Participants emphasized that gender equality is a fundamental human rights issue and a crucial element for achieving sustainable development, peace, security, and inclusive prosperity. In the face of rising global inequality, the UN women leaders stressed the importance of protecting the progress achieved through their combined efforts.

The gathering united women leaders possessing profound, firsthand understanding of current intersecting global crises. The focus was on advancing policy and solution-oriented approaches to the most pressing challenges. A critical and immediate priority identified was the urgent removal of systemic barriers hindering women’s leadership in political, economic, and social spheres.
Discussions were informed by stark global realities, advancing priorities related to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, artificial intelligence, philanthropy, financing human dignity, and the current state of multilateralism in addressing shared global challenges.

The convention also included a significant interaction with youth, whose perspectives and engagement enriched the dialogue and underscored the urgency of intergenerational collaboration. The meeting concluded with a strong, unified call to action: to safeguard multilateralism, increase investment, and promote women’s leadership to the greatest extent possible.
