Authorities in Hyderabad have successfully dismantled an unlicensed fast-food godown operating under hazardous and unhygienic conditions. The Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team (H-FAST), in collaboration with the Food Safety Officer (FSO), conducted a raid in the Charminar area, leading to the confiscation of a significant quantity of adulterated food materials.
The operation targeted M/s Al Akbar Fast Food and Godown located in New Laad Bazar, Panch Mohalla. During the inspection, officials discovered that food items were being prepared and stored in a manner that posed a severe risk to public health. The establishment was found to be operating without the mandatory FSSAI licence.
Seized items included approximately 110 kg of prepared fried chicken, several large tins of cooking oil, and prohibited artificial food colours such as MSK Lion Green and Raspberry Red. Evidence of reused stale cooking oil and a lack of essential quality control measures were also noted.
Consumption of such contaminated food can lead to severe health issues, including food poisoning, gastrointestinal infections, and long-term health complications from exposure to harmful chemicals and reused oils.
Following the raid, two individuals associated with the illegal operation were apprehended. A case has been registered at the Hussainialam Police Station under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and other relevant laws. The accused and the confiscated materials have been handed over for further legal proceedings.
Hyderabad Police are urging the public to only purchase food from licensed establishments, always verify FSSAI licences, avoid suspicious food products, and report any unsafe food practices to the authorities.
